I am a registered hedgehog carer and normally end up fostering and hand-rearing orphaned hedgehogs at this time of year. I keep them over the winter and release them in the spring. I've just had a phone call from a wildlife hospital asking me if I could take on a few of their babies, so they will be arriving in a few days. (Just getting the nursery ready!) Here is one of a litter of six I reared last year.

This hedgehog is actually a "white" hedgehog, although it doesn't show at this young age. I was very surprised when he grew up and his spines were pure white. This is the same hedgehog on Release Day, May of this year.

Lovely pictures- and well done you in caring for them. The last two summers must have been really tough on hedgehogs - either hot and dry or sodden and flooded.

I love seeing signs of my visiting hedgehog - and occassionally him/her in person.

    Flowerchild,

What wonderful work you do, and what gorgeous little critters. I love to hear of people who give of their own time to help our little friends in need, well done [IMG]
