In a previous post I asked if my Cordyline 'Red Star' could be saved.
Well it couldn't and it died.

I have replanted the other Red Star and now have 2 x 3ft tall empty planters on my door step. I liked the Red Stars because they were evergreen (until they died), eye-catching, with a decent height/spread ratio.

What would sit well in these containers? My door step is covered but gets light most of the day....

i was thinking of just getting a more hardy cordyline but I need slow-growing because I want the replacement plants to really stay at around the 3-6ft height.

appreciate suggestions either cordyline or any other evergreen. the planters are black.

    thanks, Floyd

green wider leaf cordyline australis is hardier than the red star - but bay trees last for years in a sheltered place and can be trimmed to your hearts desire! AND even better they are useful in the kitchen!:)

thanks Jennylyn. I might try the greener variety of cordyline (I don't have the time to maintain bay trees - had some before and struggled to keep the shape)
