The RHS Encyclopedia of Perennials has been purchased mainly because, not only is it a very nice book, but I found a copy in a discount book shop - 'rrp £25 - our price £9.99'.

Although the Reader's Digest Encyclopaedia of Garden Plants and Flowers is now out of print, there are still quite a large number of copies available - at Smith's as previously stated and at Waterstone's, a branch of which near our office is having a copy transferred from another branch.

After Peter's recommendation, I bought this book (found it cheap on eBay). A quick flick through now, after it arriving this morning and I can confirm it's a lovely book - beautiful pictures...and I've off out to start redesigning my herbaceous borders!

I am pleased you found that on eBay - SussexG.

As you say, its a lovely book. And its packed with sound advice, like how and when the borders are fed, how plants are supported, and loads of perennial combinations that look so good.

I also see where you got your ideas using tender perennials:D

I shall be lying awake in bed tonight reading this book...planning what I'm going to do this winter and next spring.

If it is flower gardening books you're after I found this e-book useful laying out my own garden/lawn in the house i moved to a few years ago.

Probably not as well known/famous as the other books mentioned, but its cheap, informative, packed with information and tips to get the flowers growing

Flower, that looks good value for money - three e-books for £14. But unfortunately this old foggie, doesn't even have a mobile phone let alone an e-book reader. :D
