Can someone tell me the name of this flower. It grows in a pot with geraniums, but only comes up about every two or three years.

Tuppence - I really don't have a clue. The only name that springs to mind is a Watsonia.

I think they are Kaffir lilies although they are not true lilies. I have them in my garden. Lovely red growing here and there along the borders. There is a smaller pink variety. Don't know why it only flowers every two or three years unless it's because it's in a container. It thickens up very quickly and flowers every year. Very hardy

OOOps that is a very long link

    :) Hello Tuppence

I believe it is a Valotta speciosa, the Scarborough Lily, which blooms around this time of year, actually in August for me. I have a lovely clump in the garden which I brought from the UK but I am fortunate as mine has bloomed every year since the early 80s, both in the UK as a houseplant and here in the border.

They have them in mixed pots at a restaurant we frequent, but I am wondering if yours would prefer to be on its own. :)

Thank you for your suggestions. I am tending to go with the Scarborough Lily.

I shall put it on its own when its finished flowering. The only reason its not been done before is we forget about it,as it doesn't appear every year. Its always a surprise when it pops up again!

I am sure Victoria is right. When you said it only flowers every two or three years, my first reaction was that it was a bulb from a hot climate, and not every year has been hot enough for it to flower.
