I quite agree - had to take mine to the vets the other day and usually put her back in the car before I take another mortgage out to pay ;) cos shes a bit of a handful, but they just had to put up with her cos I felt it was too hot even to put her in there for 5 mins!

They're mad! I also feel so sorry for the poor dogs who are dragged relentlessly round car boots every Sunday in the scorching sun, saves lazy ******s taking them for a proper walk (not!).

Once I left Candy in the already cool car, parked in major shade, 9am, windows & roof open, bowl of water for her, I was literally going to be ten minutes... this man started ranting at me for leaving her, now I can understand where he's coming from totally, but hang on - some people are responsible, and he should maybe check that before he accuses me of cruelty!

We have had more cases than ever this year in our vets.People often park in the shade but do not take into account the fact that the sun will move throughout the day.Last year we had a couple of deaths due to animals being left in hot cars..its a heartbreaking side to veterinary nursing that happens each summer. It makes me cross when I see people walking their dogs in extreme heat, the pavements can burn their dogs feet.

it must be heart-renduring to get to your car and find your beloved pet dead i just couldnt imajine the shock so that is why its best not to put yourself in that situation in the first place.
I myself dont like to be in the car now as it is very hot in their, I took my cavalier out for a walk to our local park and it is even hot up there today there is no way i would take her in the car
Poppy when you are called to these cases of deaths in cars do you not tell these people off for doing such a stupid thing

The worst place for finding dogs in cars on hot days are Dog Shows...the tannoy is non stop reminding people that officials have the right to break into cars with dogs left in them...a Kennel Club directive and these are the very people that should know better but still they do it.

If I take the dog out in this weather its usually earlyish and if possible it involves a good swim in some nice cool water. [IMG]

I agree with you all totally about mad people leaving their dogs in hot cars.

We have left our elderly dog with a very nice lady this holiday, because we know it is not fair to drag them around in the heat, though we have rung up to find how she is fairing, and was told she is enjoying herself laying out in the sun, just like she does at home, then comes in panting and looks at us as if to say "It's hot out there"...You cannot please some dogs.

PS Heard on the radio yesterday that 2 tiny children had to be rescued from a hot car in this heat...It made me shudder. The mother wants having the same done to her,see how she likes it...

Rosa you asked if we tell people off when their dogs require veterinary attention after being left in hot cars, the answer to that is no, you must remain impartial,do the best you can for the animal. We do try to educate owners but not pass judgment on their actions. I used to work for the RSPCA and this stood me in good stead for keeping impartial..if we don't people will not seek help and animals may not get the treatment they need.

hi poppy 33, I actually meant iff the dogs are found dead in their cars and you are called it would certainly be a more serious situation or would you still have to be careful with what you are saying to these owners.

Hi Rosa, The veterinary staff do not get involved with condeming the owners.RSPCA inspectors may bring about a prosecution and we would supply evidence if asked to do so on behalf of the RSPCA, I guess its probably the same with hospital nurses working on A&E they must see terrible things but not pass judgement on the person they are dealing with.
