Hi Clay. Welcome to GC. If you actually want to 'do it from scratch' then you really have to learn about grafting and root stocks. I'm sure someone on here can give you general advice but it is quite a difficult procedure getting the right dwarves to graft on to. The alternative is of course to buy already grafted and growing. I know Wilko's this year has had dwarf apples, pears, citrus but I didn't notice a plum so you may need a genuine nursery to get one.

Whichever way you go - Good luck.

You want to post this in the trees section, Quite a few of us regulars dont look at the new members section as its right at the top and a bit boreing.

The RHS do grafting courses I know someone who went on a 1 day course near swansea (a bit farr for you!), it cost £12 and they were suplied with 10 rootsocks to practice on.

I would have thought a proper fruit nursery would be a good place to start for rootstock although if you want them to show you how to do a graft youd need to pay them for thier time.

Full marks for wanting to try, Clay, real hands on stuff. Apart from Pro Gard's advice, I've just tried putting 'grafting root stock' into a search engine and loads of info came up so that would probably give you some ideas to start with. Welcome to the forum, BTW.
