I'm new and need some help

Hi everyone.

Ive got this climbing plant, climbing over my conservatory. I've tried many times to kill it but nothing that I've tried is working? It's now taking over. I can't get to the roots as someone who lived here before me planted it then build the conservatory, leaving a gap and thats where its growing from.

I hope someone can help?

Hi Chixster and welcome to GC. When we see a photo then I'm sure someone will recognize what it is and be able to give you some tips. We have the same problem but with it growing inside of our Wintergarten, a passion flower.

Does it flower? What time of year?

 

Oh and here is the gap its growing from. Don't know how far in the gap it is growing but I don't think I can get to the roots.

 

I don't think if flowers? It changes colour when its coming up to winter from green to red.

What a impressive climber!! I hate it. My husband likes it and wants to keep it but I have told him he needs to cut it back etc!! But yet again I've cut it back today so it has to go. Its growing everywhere. In the roof of my house etc.

 

Mmmmmm the only plant i know that does that is a red robin but i didnt think it was a climber, its a bush :confused: Daithplant might know, or Pete

Welcome to g c Chixter, looks like Parthenocissus (virginia creeper)cut it back and use a systemic weed killer like roundup,put some of the runners with the leaves on in a plastic bag tie it on to the stems with some of the roundup in so it absorbs it better, sit back and wait.

 

What a good idea. Could you do that with convolvulus? By the way I agree its a Virginia Creeper.

I agree with Walnut & Compost maker I thought it may be Virginia Creeper, it's a lovely plant for autumn colour but does have an habit of creeping where it shouldn't belong...good luck with getting rid of it.
