Welcome Sandy. Your lucky, coming originally from North London - clay, :( to North of Portsmouth - chalk :( and finally here - very heavy clay, :( I have always been envious of folk with good soil. Enjoy the forum.

 

Hi! Actually, we don't have clay! We really do have the greatest soil possible here, sandy loam. I've heard that we're on the bed of a former river, but haven't been able to check the details yet.

It's true that just a mile or so away to the north, you hit clay again, but we're in a sweet spot where the drainage is superb and anything will grow!
