Hello. Is it just me or is there a lot more to successful gardening than some would have us believe? Some people just seem to have green fingers and everything they plant just seems to grow. But most things I plant wither and die, either from being planted in the wrong type of soil, the wrong sort of light, over-watering, under-watering, you name it! So I have to keep buying new plants every year, just to replace the year before's plants that I have yet again managed to kill! The only two shrubs that seem to have survived my terrible gardening skills are a Viburnum and a Pieris Ternata Sunrise! They are both still growing like wild fire after several years. I did manage to grow a conifer, which lasted for over 20 years, until my over-zealous son-in-law cruelly butchered it a couple of years ago whilst trying to clip it back for me. Now that too is dying and will have to be removed. So as you can see, I will probably be needing lots of advice. I just hope that all you green-fingered gardeners corner members will have patience with me?
Hi Gardening Dunce and welcome to our great site. I think lots of us have luck with some plants and no luck with others, with myself heading the list! You've had luck with several things so you can't be that bad and you will improve with all the help you'll get here. Enjoy!
Some plants seem to love me and are going for world domination and some hate me and no matter how many I buy or what I do they always die. You are not alone, this is the best place to ask for help (or sympathy) :D
Hi Gardening D.Gardening Is all about Disasters ,Successes learning from both and Enjoying yourself we all have some plants that for some reason don't seem to do as well as others Just keep persevering and smiling.
Hi gardening d - we all of us have plants that don't do well for us. I was always death on indoor plants, until I discovered xmas cactus and orchids - they seem to survive my ministrations or lack of them :D Theres lots of folks can help - so tell us a bit about your soil and climate - and then about the plants you want to grow
Hi GD, I have been growing plants professionally for nearly forty years but that doesn't mean I always get it right so don't worry. Everyone has failures as well as successes, it's just a constant learning curve.
Welcome :D Gardening is an adventure and I think the good gardeners learn to go with what is working and build on that. Optimism and persistence are needed in abundant quantities.
Wow! Thanks to everyone who has welcomed me to this forum. I'm such a Gardening Dunce that I'll be seeking advice rather than giving any! But I'm looking forward to just browsing the forums, in the hope of picking up a few tips!
