    Hi

Im new to taking care of lawns and have been reading up on the benefits of using a lawn aerator roller. I didnt use one this year or last year, is July too late to use one now? When is the best time I should be using it? Feb-March ?

What type of soil are you on? My own lawn is on heavy clay and I aerate on a dry day in April and then again in September/October. I also top dress with a good mix of sharp sand and topsoil to improve the soil structure. Any lawns with a better natural structure I only aerate once a year, either side of the main period of compaction so either April or September/October.

Now is a bad time but only due to the beautiful heat we're having. I take it you're the same in Buckinghamshire? If so wait until later in the year as aerating now may lead to excess moisture loss through evaporation.

Its no good even thinking about aeration of lawns this time of year.

Much better to wait til' Nov, Dec, Jan,Feb, Mar and even early April. If weather allows you to get on the grass!

AND if poss do it once in each of those months, you can not ever over aerate the lawn.

    Highly reccomend!!!!!!

Highly unlikely you'd be able to do it but if you do then make sure you water heavily afterward as if there's an extended dry spell the soil will certainly crack.

Which machine/product is best to use? There is a cheapish one in Argos which you just hand push and roll over and it has spikes on the end.
