Yes, had the Wild Boar and Venison in Germany in the 1980's. Haven't tried Ostrich (always looks a tough old bird). Is Kangaroo like Castlemain Old XXXX, something the Aussies won't touch.

I'm surprised the board didn't say 'children' as well, Woo. My son went to school just down the road ...

    :) Hello woo.

Wild boar and venison are 'normal' winter dishes here, usually done in a casserole, occasional the wild boar as a steak. Both are lovely and tender ... and I am basically a non meat-eater, may eat chicken once a week and mince in various dishes.

T'other half had kangaroo in the UK in the 90s.

Our lovely Deli in town sells Ostrich and Kangaroo burgers occasionally, but each time we've tried to get some they've been sold out :(

I love Venison and if it keeps the feral deer population under control, even better!

Just to add to this foodie thread, I saw on the local news tonight a pub (I think it was in Devon) is selling jacket spuds at £40 each. Oh but they did have cream and caviar in them. so that must be worth it!!!
    Strangely they've not sold many.:hehe:

    Venison is normal diet here.
Ostrich appeared for a while when the red meat scare was on.
It's really just like beef without the fear of all the things that went with it.
Haven't seen it on any menu for a while.

let me guess.... the Sir John Falstaff in Higham???, I love that restaurant (pub), a little pricey but well worth it, the food is not only unusual but cooked to perfection and delicious. Last time we went there I had skippy (the bush kangeroo) she was like a very rich beef steak and hubby had ostrich neck, which he said was just like chicken!
Hope you had a nice lunch...what did you decide on in the end?

A pub in a town near us always had their lunch menu chalked on a board outside. The typical menu said:-

    Cottage Pie
    Sausage and Mash
    Liver, Bacon and Onion
    Fish and Chips

    Pensioners £3.50

I bet those pensioners were a bit stringy. :hehe: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'l have to go by at some time with my camera and see whether they still say it.

'I bet those pensioners were a bit stringy.'

The trick is to cook 'em slowly, Shiney.

I'm still a bit puzzled by an electronic sign outside a local girls' school which says 'slow children'. It seems a little unfair to label them. It's not their fault.
