    Hi everyone

Great forum, well used, easy to follow and a wealth of information that Iââ?¬â?¢m still reading through. Joined a few weeks ago and have been reading as much as I can before posting anything. Iââ?¬â?¢ll apologise to the very experienced in advance for the obviously stupid questions that I will be asking [IMG]

If enthusiasm is anything to be judged on then Ive got it in abundance, but knowledge, experience and ability are quite lacking!

Have had a very overgrown slopey and pot holed garden for 8 years which gave me waist high wild grass [was just stuff that grew wildly and very successfully over covered up builders rubble] and finally this year got it levelled off a bit with some steps. Its 40ft long by 20ft wide and sloped away upwards from the house, the back bit approx 5ft higher than the patio. Its been terraced into 3 flat sections, 4 if you include the patio. Ive been reading, buying and planting like mad since the summer. My aim is to have a wildlife friendly garden with mainly perennials, evergreens and stuff that grows berries for the birds and insect attracting flowers. With seasonal bits in-between and bulbs in the gaps for extra pretty things to see. Have been getting tips and cuttings from friends and its slowly starting to take shape. Im very green and have got a wormery, a mini greenhouse, 2 compost bins, a log pile, leaf pile and a bird feeding station with a frustrated squirrel. Even considering recycling my own wee but havent got that far yet!

Have started a herb garden, the veggie plot is ready and staked for next year and I have some fruit shrubs and bushes on order. Other areas have been planted with a little bit of planning but dont want them too manicured. Ive got areas for butterfly attracting shrubs, compost area bordered off with prickly hedging, a rockery, a fruit area, a small grass section and other areas for evergreen perennials that will flower plus plenty of bulbs in containers on the patio. Think Ive planted things far enough apart to allow for their growth and spread so at the moment does look like there is more dirt than plants so I cant wait for the spring burst and see things really take off then will give me a better idea to see where Ive got it right and where Ive gone wrong.

I know its an on going job keeping a garden and I canââ?¬â?¢t wait to learn from you guys, have got to know a lot of names from the posts. Iââ?¬â?¢ve been boring everyone that cares to listen, or not, since the summer about my progress so Iââ?¬â?¢m glad Iââ?¬â?¢m now in good company with like minded people [IMG]

Catch ya soon, am off to read the Edible Section now in preparation. Promise future posts wont be as long, I just had to share my enthusiasm ;)

    Hi everyone

Thanks for the warm welcome, you're definitely right that when you get hooked you stay hooked. When the garden has a bit of spring growth will post a before and after picture. Think have found a miniature Katy Apple tree for the patio and now checking prices on the net, think the 'not-so-cheap' garden centre I visited yesterday is actually the cheapest. I even find myself looking at other peoples gardens when I go down the road seeing if I can get ideas and admiring where necessary. So many that are overgrown, would love to get in there and see what can be done with it! Will hold back and stick with my own private Kew gardens though.

PS particularly love Rosa's cheeking lioness copying the pose of the spaniel
