The Sheen X-300 flame gun, to give it its full name , is a gardening tool I bought to get rid of the overgrown jungle of weeds that seem to sprout everywhere in my garden.

The username refers to the tools necessary to plant anything in my front garden, where the builders definition of soil seems to include compressed clay, rubble, hard-core, splilled concrete and half a pallet of paving slabs, still with the metal binding on it and lumps of old road surface. This was then covered with about 2 inches of what may regarded as soil, but I wouldnt call it top-soil, it just happens to be on the top.

Anything more than a bedding plants require the use of mattock or pick-axe to prepare the ground for planting.

If I ever get a new house again, I will be hiring in a JCB and a dumper truck and doing the job properly !

On a slightly more positive note, I heavy-duty rotavator ( now onto its second drive belt thanks to the rubble) and 15 cubic meters of spent mushroom compost later, we are starting to get some progress. The front garden looks great, largely due to Mrs Pickaxe, who is the plantswoman in our house and the back now has a good sized veg patch.

BTW, I deny any knowlege of the missing avitars.

Could this one have something to do with it ?

very comforting to hear that you and mra p.ofp. are getting somewhere with your garden. it took us 6mths to get started. got rid of 3 huge conifers. half dead apple trees, and ground that was neglected for 15 yrs. the thing is young people lived in this house before us. [IMG] good luck to the both of you.
