Cacti out of control

    I have acquired some cacti which I was hoping could sit on windowsills and mantelpieces in my new house however once I received them I found that they were rather large.

    As you can see from the pictures they will not even stand up. I was hoping there was a way to reduce the size of them without killing them so that they can sit on my windowsills without causing personal injury.

    Looks like you have one or two good looking plants there.
    I'm guessing they have been grown in a greenhouse, which is really what they need.

    You could try taking some cuttings which would involve cutting off the top section of the stem about 6ins long and leaving the cut surface to dry for about a week.
    Then set them on the surface of a pot of cactus compost, dont bury the stem.
    You can put a stick in the pot to hold the cutting still, it needs to be only just moist and a spray now and then will help.

    At least a couple I see look like nice specimens and it would perhaps be a shame to cut them.

    someof them look really nice i use garden canes to help keep my tall one that wants to run riot straight (ish).

    pete thanks for the info on taken cuttings never new that.
