    Hello everyone

I'm sure someone told me how to do this once but I just can't find the info anywhere!!

Mine is a newly planted climbing rose and I want it to climb up and over an archway, I think I have to tie in a branch or two lying across ground level?? does that make scense??

Otherwise it will grow too leggy!!

Is this correct or did I dream the info up [IMG]

im not sure Stingo. i heard somewhere to bend the young branches to where youd like them to grow while theyre still pliable. [IMG]

You need to keep upward shoots going horizontal, this way the sap goes to the bend and makes more shoots going vertical.

sound odd I know but make the rose go horizontal and you will get a better, bushier vertical bush.

I can vouch for that! Last year I planted a new climbing rose to hide a water butt which didn't really do much but then I read up on training them horizontal and so I tried it. It went bananas and grew very bushy. However although it looked really healthy (and still does) it never flowered. I'm hoping it will this year though.
