    Evening everyone,

I bought a climbing rose recently,(Morning Jewel in Pink) and at the moment i am unable to plant it as im waiting for my raised beds to be made (a friend is 'supposed' to be making them,...cough...how long is it taking!?)
I only have a back yard you see.
Anyway, it's started growing like there is no tomorrow, which is sound but, i wanted to train it to go straight up (well, straight ish) and then left and right along the top of my wall. Any tips on how to stop it from going in all directions?
I've never grown roses before so go easy on me...hee hee
    Cheers :D

No problem - you can still prune a climbing rose and cut back to a good outfacing bud those stems which you do not want.

    Best of luck........

the following is assumimg that the rose is already in a pot.

If you replant the rose into a bigger pot, CAREFULLY, place the pot where you want the rose to finally go and start tying in the growth where you want it.
When the raised beds are done, CAREFULLY remove from the pot and plant into the soil.
do not prune the rose until the autumn.

It may be better to leave the rose in the new large pot until the autumn to give the roots time to get going.

Thanks for the advice, will do that. Hopefully the beds will arrive soon!!!

Are they difficult to grow in general roses? like i said, i've never grown them before. Are they prone to disease or anything?

Thanks for the help guys. [IMG]

black spot and powdery mildew are the most frequent - but with a bit of luck you'll be ok. Just keep it stress-free - that is, don't let it get too dry or too wet - but don't panic, they can cope with most situations. Just, if it's in a pot, as with any plant, don't let it get really dry. Plants under stress are more prone to whatever's going around, same as people.

As an addition - black spot being the most common problem. Twould be an idea to spray it now whilst the leaves are shooting - roseclear will do, need to repeat it a couple of times as per the instructions. Spraying will hold off black spot for a good long time.
