Last night we went to the annual International Sand Sculturing Festival which is held here about 20 minutes from us.

I arrived with all my new camera gear, only to discover I left the memory card at home. Had to use t'other half's camera, the memory card of which was half full of music, so I didn't get all the shots I wanted to.

I didn't think it was a good as previous years but nevertheless enjoyed it. You can tell when I was facing the sun or not ...

They are truly amazing- are they sprayed with something to stop them drying out and crumbling?

Pleased you enjoyed looking at them Babe, ydd, Liz and ag.

It takes about six weeks to do the exhibit and the sculptures come from all over the world ... China, Canada, Brazil, USA, Australia and also all over Europe. It is the largest exhibit of its kind in the world.

They compact the sand with water building it up in layers and it can withstand even our intense storms. In fact, The Last Supper was in this exhibit and it was from last year's festival! The festival runs this year from 7 June to 7 October.

The only one sprayed with something was the Himalayas to give the snowy effect. I didn't manage to get a picture of it because of the camera faux-pas, but Ayers Rock was rust coloured.

Pleased you enjoyed it rosa, Honey and ydd ... hope you all looked in the Galeria of previous years ... just fantastic.

I feel so fortunate to live less than 20 minutes away from the site and this is the second year running I have won entry for two to the festival (£5 each).

Glad you looked at the links, quite mind boggling, aren't they?

T'other half said he could take a bucket, fill it with sand and plop it down on the ground ....
