To me, Bunslip, that looks like caterpillar damage. In the first picture, the leaf looks to be suffering from some kind of nutrient deficiency and also scorch.

Not to my knowledge jurassic. Good thinking though, I suppose it could be a combination of all of these things. Not sure what to hit it with, prefer to be organic as far as possible, so good husbandry issues like feed it, water and mulch etc come to mind. But then what, a general purpose insecticide??

Before you can treat it, Bunslip, you have to identify the problem.

I would leave it, It should recover fine and hopefully just be a passing problem. If you want to spray it then use Provado ultimate bug clear.

Our next doors neighbours went like that a couple of years ago.
Theirs is cut into a hedge.
As it was seperating the front gardens alone our drive they hinted it was the fumes from my husbands van.
They took a bit to the garden centre , they told them to prune off the bad bits ,spray it with a mutit purpose insecticide and feed it.
    This was in the summer.
After a few months it was fine.

There's a laurel hedge that looks exactly like that between my garden and the neighbours, its their hedge so I dont take much notice.
Its looked pretty tatty for two or three years now.
I've not really looked close but I would hassard a guess its scale insect, they attack the growing point in the summer and cause all kinds of damage to the leaves as they emerge.
As the leaf grows so does the the damage, so minute damage to a tiny new leaf becomes massive damage as the leaf reaches full size.

Thanks again guys. I will let you know how it responds. I think I will have to try the Provado as suggested. I assume do it now- or wait till spring?
