I am growing T & M Brandy Wine toms this year nd seem to hae a little problem with the emerging fruit. i have 16 plants in my poly tunnel and they have lots of flowers & leaves and look healthy enough, but as the flowers begin to dry up and drop off the stem carrying the flower is wilting and bending. I water regularly and feed once a week with a proprietary tomato feed. Help !!

C-B have you got plenty of ventilation even short spells of sunshine can send the temperature sky high in the p/t, make sure they are being pollinated if the bees are not getting in you would be as well doing a bit of pollinating using a soft brush.

Pete, They are up to the stage where the stems wither and die off.

Walnut - i always have both ends of the p/t right open, but as you say it does get really hot sometimes. I will try pollinating with a paint brush and see what happens. I had a quick look this morning before replying and found a fruit !! albeit only the size of my thumbnail, but its there, so its not happening to all the stems. Thanks for your advice.

Please excuse my ignorance but I thought toms were self-pollinating. Can't you just tap the flowers gently?

I thought some commercial growers used bumble bees to improve the pollination of tomatoes.

As cajary says, I just give the flower stalks a tap around the middle of the day, when the pollen is on the move.
I wonder if this might be something other than just a pollenation problem.
Is it just the individual flowers that are dropping off, or are you saying the truss stem withers? conny-boy.
I do know that dry roots can make the flowers drop, without forming fruit. Especially a problem in growbags.

pete, the individual flowers are dropping, or rather the stems carrying the flowers seem to be bending and then drying off. I think i'll just keep doing what i'm doing and see what happens, there are still plenty of flowers on there. Ive been checking out this variety on www, apparently they can grow up to 16 oz each ! thank you so much for all your advice. I'll let you know my results if you're interested.
