I have just noticed a strange rash spreading over my tomatos. They are gardners delight and I have been growing them out of bags and pots in my plastic greenhouse. I have 6 plants and 3 of them are displaying a patchy yellowing of the leaves in the newer leaves and the top leaves have started to curl downwards. I also have a courgette plant that had very yellow mottled leaves. I fear the dreaded Mosaic Virus, but I'm not sure and don't want to cull my plants unneccessarily. What do you all think??

Hi Minxter,It could be Verticillium Wilt.Lower leaves turn yellow and the discolouration moves upwards. All leaves become dry and wilted.Young plants in cold, wet conditions are most susceptible.
Keep the air moist and warm and do not overwater.
Mosaic Virus:the leaves are mottled with yellow and dark green patches. The leaf surface becomes puckered and distorted.Plants are serverely stunted and may collapse in a bad attack. There is no treatment and the book says to destroy all infected plant material;wash hands and tools thouroghly before touching other plants.
The disease is spread by greenfly,so spray immediately if these pests are seen.
Can you put a post a pic?

I should say that the above was in re. to courgette.
Your tomatoes; it could be magnesium deficiency, so spray with epsom salts and use a fertilizer which contains Magnesium.(Mg)

I'm having digital camera problems at the moment so no piccies, I'm afraid. I'm 99% sure my tomatos have mozaic virus. The leaves have light and dark green patches and the leaves have become puckered like ****e paper gone mad! I've cut down the infected ones and I hope to the plant God that my others don't fall to the same fate. Otherwise my Gorgeous Green Tomato Chutney will be scuppered for this year.
    Thanks for your help.

Minxter that should be crepe. Also, you say you`ve cut down the infected ones but you should also destroy the roots. David.
