Can anybody identify this little Beauty

The bug in the centre was removed from one of the brown sacs

So where did you get the brown sacks from GG? :confused:

 

I think it could be the larva of a Leaf cutter bee.

 

to pete I found those bugs in an old fuchsia basket which I was cleaning out

 

Then they almost certainly are leaf cutter bee grubs.

 

I have leaf cutter bees invading my cacti every year, but I find that they are in a cell of cut leaves that falls apart when the compost is removed.
These seem to be in a sealed container, I must admit the grub looks similar to me palustris but not the container.
Maybe I've not really looked that closely before, but GG, I would be interested to know if there was any circular cut outs of leaf around them where they were buried.

 

Hello pete, as far as I noticed there were no signs of any pieces of cut out leaves
I wondered about the containers too ,when palustris came with the leaf cutter bee I thought we had sussed it
But looking through various sites and books about leaf cutter bees, there Is no mention of a pouch or container except for cut outs of leaves??????

 

That was my thoughts GG, although I know there are other kinds of bee that burrow in the ground.

 

Palustris & Pete, thanks for your help, we don't seem to know any more about the pouches so Palustris looks as if he is right about the leaf cutter bee
I might have one more thing up my sleeve, I put those bugs Into a jar with a lid and holes for ventilation with some compost.

We will have to wait and see. G G.

 

They are most certainly the young of the leaf cutter bee. The " sacs " are what the adult bee makes out of the pieces of leaf they cut from the plants. No cure or prevention available. Just appreciate their skill. David.

 

daitheplant some of the bugs have just hatched they look more like wasps than bees & they dont look like any of the leaf cutter bees that i have seen on any of the websites i have looked at

What an interesting article with an especially good result, a live leaf cutter bee or whatever

 

Its not what I know as a leafcutter bee, as you say GG, looks more like some kind of wasp.
