you can grow some calendula pot marigolds in they are herbs and also have lovely orange flowers. some of the herbs also look very attractive..another one which is attractive and also a herb is nastertiums you can get the dwarf variety which will be fine for a hangiong basket..
i wouldnt bother adding other flowers as you can find enough herbs to look stunning ..their are many i could suggest ...
feverfew /chamomile/ and even chives if you dont harvest them have a lovely purple flower..
in the gardeners world magazine this month their is a article on growing herbs in pots and it gives you ideas.

    Hi Tess
I have a little herb border along my pathway and I don't bother with any flowers in it and it does look so very nice.
I just try to get as many variegated leaf herbs as I can because as we all know the leaves last longer than the flowers and can look just as nice. [IMG]

The flowers can last just as long as the leaves especially the calendula as they self seed and the flowers come all summer..The same with the nastertiums as they also self seed and keep coming..you can also get many different thyme plants with different colour flowers.. Most of the herbs go underground for the winter anyway so nothing is going to last indefinately ..unless you start to grow herbs on a sill in the kitchen..you may be able to keep those going all winter..
You could buy some cheap pots and decorate them yourself... That would add the designer touch..
