Feverfew was the topic. Too late to plant any now, but I understand that you can buy feverfew tablets. It is not mumbo jumbo, feverfew is a natural source of aspirin and has been tested by migraine research clinics.

My herbal recommends a dosage of 1-3 medium sized leaves per day. They recommend chewing a leaf! I've no idea what it tastes like.
You should still find it in a good nursery, or seeds for next year are available from Suffolk Herbs, Chilterns', and Nickys' nurseries.
Try the tablets from a health store to see if they work.

You can make a tea with the leaves or just chew one or two. They are bitter, but not unpleasantly so.

    Hi rosa
We have two different varieties of feverfew in our garden (lots of it in your patch) but I don't know whether Mrs shiney has cut them all back already. We usually get a second flowering if we cut them back and, as it is peeing down out there, I can't check it out.

Feverfew is a very old and well known remedy for migraine but it also depends upon the cause and what the symptoms are. I'll ask Mrs shiney what else you can do about it when she has finished seeing her patients for today. She will probably want more info on how the migraine is affecting you and whereabouts in your head it is hurting.

As Hornbeam says, the leaves are bitter - how bitter they seem depends on your palate. As plants in the garden they self-seed very easily and can become very rampant - don't know why the garden centres charge so much for them!

    Wish you better.

Rosa x2 Codis and a sleep, works most times. My doctor gave me some pre-emptive medication which are supposed to catch them before they occur. But unfortunately I am usually woken up by migraine so its too late to use them. Always have some food before taking the Codis because they can irritate a tender stomach. I have never tried herbal remedies for migraines but to be honest my migraines are so painful and debilitating I can't imagine being able to go and pick leaves and make a cuppa with them in between throwing up and desperately trying to sleep.

I know this isn't the place but given how debilitating the condition is it seems worth the inclusion: I seem to recall reading in New Scientist not very long ago about a medication that stops migraines dead in about 30% of people. I can't remember why some were lucky, maybe genetic, maybe to do with the range of causes of the migraine, also I don't know if it was still in development or trials. Might be worth asking the doc if anything new is on the shelf.

Personally I think Feverfew tastes yuk, but I find it too pretty to remove. Does Meadowsweet have a long history of use for this Hornbeam, and can you tell us how to prepare it? There's lots of it around me.

When i replied earlier forgot i was logged in on jazz,s.
Still dont feel to good all day i have been feeling just washed out and sickly, I have been getting these migraines since i was 9 and still get them, they ceased for a while but these past few weeks they are coming back with a vengeance, I am sure stress can bring them on as i have been stressed about the crash and lights in supermarkets are really bad for migraine sufferers.
Yes those pills you get bm you have to catch the migraine at its earliest stage but as you know you still feel awful.
When one comes on i usually take 2 celebrex.
Migraines are horrid worse than a normal headache as they affect your eye-sight with double vision it is horrid.
Anyway i am pleased to be back as rosa, felt strange being jazz. :D :D
