So far you guys and girls have helped me no end with our Privit hedge and Budlia bushses . Can anyone advise as to using Hemlock as a hedge . We have a border that backs onto open fields with a mixed hedge on the field side and a public footpath. The hedge is not evergreen . It is quite dark in the border on our side of the hedge and was advised that a Hemlock hedge would be good as it requires little light and is also evergreen which would add privacy from the public footpath in the field .
    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Rick

It grows quickly, but is not invasive. Is happy in shade. Any old soil will do. I have a neighbour with one. He is quite happy. Go for it, you probably can't do better.

Forgot to add that if you can get Canadian Hemlock, it is evergreen.

You will be quite safe NN. The Greek philosopher Socrates was forced into 'suicide' by drinking hemlock but that was 'conium'. The hemlock you want is 'tsuga' a totally different thing and it is not poisonous. [IMG]
