Hello everyone my names sam,i'm new here and new to gardening.I need some advice, i planted an apple tree last year it's about 8ft tall, i would now like to move it as i feel its too close to my house, when is the best time to do this?
I got apples from it last year but none this year which i am told is normal, so if i move the tree does this mean i wont get any next year either?

If you must move it, then once all the leaves have dropped and before the soil gets cold is the best time to do it. To help the tree start watering it about a week to tendays before you intend to move it, even if it rains, unless it is monsoon rain of course. Dig the hole into which it is to go first and flood that with water. Then dig up your tree with as much soil as you can and with as little damage to the roots as posible. Replant firmly and to the same depth as it was originally. If you are careful the tree will not even know it has been moved. As long as you do not do any damage to the branches and fruiting spurs the tree should fruit as soon as it would if you had not moved it. As the tree has only been in the ground for a year then its roots will hardly have gone very far from the original hole in which it was planted. Have fun!

assuming the tree to have been pot grown I would dig a circular hole about 3-4" bigger than the pot it came in and lift. You wil;l balance losses of roots by cutting against losses from damage due to soil weight. A goodly bit of fertilizer in the planting pocket will help - bonemeal or somesuch.
