I am looking at buying either a self-pollinating small tree or two small apple trees.

I want the taste of the apples to be like gala or golden delicious (sweet and juicy).

Does anybody know the names of such trees?

Going round an apple orchard nursery isn't an option for me. So my local nursery will get hold of whatever type I ask for - I don't know what type I want!

I am grateful for any suggestions.

We're doing the same thing at the moment. Our garden centre gave us a very useful booklet about fruit trees which explains all the different varieties. The web address is:

Greensleeeves is a good Golden Delicious type, but better! It is ready to eat now, but will store until Xmas with any luck!

a good investment is the Garden Expert book on fruit trees/bushes.

well worth about 7 quid, it lists every type you're likely to come across

it says to stay away from stuff that's good in the shops - such as golden delish

    best of luck!

What about a Bardsey apple tree?

Bardsey is believed to be the world's oldest/rarest apple. One tree was re-discovered a few years ago growing in the remnants of a 13th Century Monk's orchard on Bardsey Island. I like these sort of stories [IMG]
