I think it may be over optimistic to expect Delonix to survive outside here. I'm not risking mine, it's only 2ft high and will remain under glass at least for 6 months of the year.Caesalpinias and Albizias are on the borderline of hardiness so I personally would not risk it unless you have more than one. You could try nicking the seed with a sharp knife the opposite end to where the root comes out. It allows the water in, sometimes soaking in hot water helps. [IMG]

    thanks everyone

I have two at the moment - i am quite happy to leave it in the greenhouse, until its too big. it doesn't get as cold here in Jersey as it does in the UK, if i can get some more to germinate then i will try one outside when its a year old making sure i protect the base in the winter - i guess i wont know until i try eh. I don't blame you for risking it, but what is gonna happen when yours is too big for the green house strongylodon, or are you going to bonsai it ? How long has it taken to get 2 foot?

Pete, thanks i have tried the hot water but i will have a go at nicking the seeds as i still have quite alot left

I bought mine as a 1ft plant high in a florist shop in the departure lounge in Tenerife airport last july. I don't particularly like bonsai so I don't know what I'll do when it gets too big, the greenhouse ridge is 15ft high (commercial greenhouse) so it has a way to go. My Ravenala (travellers tree) is almost touching the roof so that is a problem now. [IMG]

This is the little Delonix, as I said, A way to go but is twice the size that it was when I brought it home in my backpack.
