    Hello,

I was given a bonzai tree for christmas which is doing very nicely on my kitchen windowsil. The problem is that I am going away for a week soon and don't have anyone to water it for me whilst I am away :( . Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get round this problem - I heard a story once which involved cotten wool but I've forgotten it  so any help would be great!

Thank you, I can't see the link that you mentioned - is there any chance you can post it again?

I hope it helps it was quite hard finding this but it may give you some ideas. Otherwise have a google or maybe find a Bonsia specialist. Good luck.. :D
Hopefully someone else will be on later that may have more ideas... ;)

I don't have any experience with bonsai trees but for other plants I water well before going away then stand them on feet in a bath filled with about 2" of water. The base of the pot or container should be just above the water level. The idea is the water and cool shade keep the humidity up round the plants and prevents drying out without waterlogging the roots. Then get them outside in the daylight and fresh air as soon as you get home.

A week's holiday and they won't even notice you've been away, fortnight's fine although a month would be pushing it.
