TREE PRUNE TROUBLE

i have just moved in to a new house and the previous owners have well pruned a robinia tree.
Its about 18 foot tall was given a hard prune 1 or 2 years ago. now we have nice thick branches and an abundance of thin long wispy new shoots all over the place.
It also is a bit of a strange shape and has knobly bits all over it where the pruning was done and the new shoots come out.

question : should i thin out new branches? or just leave in it in peace.?

I think its up to you, if you leave it alone, after a while the thin shoots will probably die out of their own accord. On the other hand it might need tidying up a bit, to make it more pleasing to look at.

Try to remove any thin whispy bits right back to the point of origin or you will just get more thinner and whispier bits. Remember that pruning encourages new growth.

Can u recommend any good web sites for more detailed info about pruning trees. The books I have are very general about all these things. I haven't even asked about the 2 apple trees that look like startled gnarled old men trying to fly across my lawn.
