lol that had crossed my mind, I believe the bloke who we bought the house off didnt touch the garden for over 20 years acording to my new neighbours. The gardens either side of mine are immaculate, maybee I should ask my neighbours for a little help.

Clear a good area and then have ye a nice bonfire. Looks like a great project if you have the time. It wont be obvious just how large it is until its cleared.

We had a garden like that, it didn't take too long to clear but there were 4 of us doing it! You could hire some goats they will eat it for you.

Mark, first thing I would suggest is to get hold of a strimmer or brushcutter. Cut it all to ground level and have your bonfire.Once you`ve done that you can then start to get the roots out. As Woo says, just take your time and only do as much as you want to do. [IMG]

Mark78, You've got it all wrong, the bloke who had the house before you has spent the last 20 years creating a fantastic NATURE GARDEN. You can't destroy his 20 years of hard work now, can you?

[IMG] Nature garden I like that, Hes also spent the last 20 years creating a bug haven within the house I dont think it has ever seen a hoover or duster, luckily my wife is on top of that now.

Thanks for all your comments/ideas and like most of you say im just going to have to do as much as I can when I can clearing a little bit of an area at a time. Even if I manage to clear a few square meters before spring at least my kids might have a bit of an area to play in.

I quite like the goat idea do they actually like eating brambles? crazy animals lol. Ill have to have a word with a few of the local farmers to see if they have bramble munching goats for hire.

I also had a thought this evening of buying my little lad a metal detector for xmas you never know what I might uncover eh ;)

Just a quick question : how fast do brambles actually grow during the summer? im a shift worker so ill struggle to get into the garden every week. I have a 10 day break avery 21 days so these 10 days will be used to attack the brambles. If I clear an area of a few square meters will I come back to find in 3 weeks the area has overgrown again?
