    Hi,

I sowed some Morning Glory seeds on Sunday and on the packet it said that shoots should appear within 21 days. On Tuesday (day 3) they shoots were already appearing and now on day 5 they are about an inch high already and seem to be growing before my eyes!

They are in a propagator on my downstairs toilet window ledge. The room is sunny during the morning only. Any reason why they shooted so early? Is this okay and should they still grow okay?

    Thanks,

    Gilly ;)

Hi Gilly. I have sowed a number of seeds and found that they have all germinated quicker than the instructions. I think the seed companies are just conservative - it wards off complaints.

In the same vein there are a lot of plants that are in reality half hardy perennials, such as Morning Glory, Geraniums, Diascia, Heliotrope, several Salvias, Petunias, trailing Lobelia etc, but the seed companies call them annuals. The reason being that if they die overwinter you won't blame them. However, if you are able and willing to look after them over winter, they will usually come back the following year.

    Thanks Peter [IMG]

I am looking forward to see how fast they grow now - these are the first seeds that I have sown.

I want to plant them in a pot and put cone trellis on top of the pot and let them grow like that. I saw a picture in a gardening magazine and it looked really nice!

Gilly - I grow them myself, but am no expert on them. From what I have hard from other people they do like warmth, and the further north you are the less well they perform. However you should be OK in London.
