Garden huckleberries

I used to buy seeds from Unwins but they have stopped. I did buy another variety, but they were very small. I think the variety is Solanum Melanocerasum, but I am not sure.

Huckelberry, a lovely fruit. I bought some but must admit I did not have success with germination ... perhaps my weather. I do envy you if you get them going ... I have some recipes if you do.

We had a dry spring and it was difficult to start. Try inside, well watered and cool. They grow in Canada Dominium Seeds have them, but they will not sell outside the country

 

Ola norman! In the meantime I have purchased a Carissa macrocarpa hybrid (smaller, bushier and no thorns), the Natal Plum. It produces small plum shaped fruit that taste of sweet cranberries, so I can use them for the purpose I was trying for the Huckleberries.

Generally, Huckleberries like cooler climates as do Blueberries and such like. The Carissa is from South Africa so likes my hot dry climate.
