Our pond filter seems to have died. Well, it doesnt appear to do anything when I flip it on! I've hauled it out of the water and had a look at it, it looks fine- as in it's not covered in slime or blocked up.

Does anyone know if it can be fixed or will it need to be replaced? Please keep in mind the house is a rental- I don't think the landlords will fix it (they won't even fix our shower!) so if we need to replace it, it will have to be done cheaply.

Any ideas would be appreciated, the pond keeps filling up with slime and I'd like to gt the water fall working again!

do you meant the pump is not pumping?

have you cleaned it out, it is probably blocked.

pond filters should be left running 24/7 in order to work. more information is here

    I...don't know.

"IT" is in a small plastic crate, for lack of a beter word, at the bottom of the pond- it has a tube leading out from it, which is what I assume fuels the waterfall. It resembles a pool filter and is black. I've occasionally pulled slime, etc off the covering, but at the moment it is clear.

How do I tell it is blocked, and how do I clear it, please?

I love the garden, and really want to be able to maintain the pond properly.

Hi Erin not much to go on but In the pond is the Pond pump ,My filter is outside the pond.the pump pushes (circulates)the water round up through the filter which in it has 3 foam Mats inside plus about 150 plastic rings (can be made of different materials)This is called Biological Media and a UVC( ultra violet clarifier)The pump must be cleaned at regular intervals and also the filter,Maybe you are talking about the pump
If it is in the water ,some pump have filters built in,The form of a small foam mat.Hope this of some help. [IMG]

yep its the pump. it needs cleaning.

some people also use planting baskets wired together to act as a pre-filter

what ever you have turn the mains off take it out and clean it
