Frogspawn

I have frogs' spawn in my pond, a big mass of yuk.

 

I just looked at your link Marley and I was really surprised to see that frogs, the common one at least, spawns pre-January 30th in some places in the UK! Must see if I can pull up a chart for Germany along those lines.

I am also looking for toadspawn - haven't found any yet!!!

 

I'd love toads - or newts in our pond - but would feel very uneasy taking spawn from the wild - infact wouldn't even consider it!

Surprise! the first frog spawn in our pond this year! The frogs have been here several days and this morning they were croaking a lot and sporting around in the main "spawning corner", so I knew before I went out to look that I would find some.

 

My friend's new pond has one clump of spawn that arrived on 15th/16th, colder weather seems to have put a break on any further activity.

 

We've had a second lot but this year there are fewer frogs and spawn, our pond is usually quite overcrowded. I think you are right frogesque about the colder weather having put a stop to further activities.

Had a look at the clump of spawn today and the black dots are getting a lot bigger and elongated. Anyone had a 'happy event ' yet? :D

 

Hi All you frog lovers
In my last house I had a pond that I emptied because it got full of leaves and it was affectinf the fish, when I emptied it there were 75 adult frogs either in or around the pond, as you can imagine we had frogspawn every year which was lovely until about June when the little frogs developed and climbed out of the pond and onto the lawn, every time I cut the grass I had to go around with a bucket and pick up all the baby frogs, couldn't bear the thought of chopping them up with the lawnmower or strimmer, this was real pain as there was normally 150/200 to pick up, so be warned guys, if you have a lawn and a concience be prepared for some back-breaking work in the summer!!

Yep, been there, done that :D only not quite as many as you had. Ours emerge later - this was taken in September and a few taddies even overwintered in the pond
