Hi Scully.I normally take off the seed pods when they are brown and starting to split open. They can be put into paper bags and put somewhere to dry,but not anywhere too hot.
If you have put the whole pods into the bags, then these can be removed leaving just the seed.
Store the seeds after labelling the bags, somewhere dry. They can be sown either in the Autumn or spring.

Yellow flag Iris will seed themselves around the parent plants and the main plants will take over the garden if not kept in check.

Scully. So sorry to hear about your kitty. Is She/He ok?I expect it was some idiot with an air rifle. Please let us all know how kitty is going on.

It will be best if they are ripe first, but saying that some of the heads of mine are top heavy on the plant and are heading towards the ground, where they will probably still ripen while attached to the plant.
You will soon know if they have germinated as the seedlings will be like blades of grass,so be careful when weeding.I can pick them out as the brown seed is usually on the surface of the soil, until the main roots pull themselves down into the ground.

Don't forget to keep us updated on the kitty, but only when you have time.
