    Hi,
I was given some pond plants by someone clearing out their pond, but the thing it, I don't have a pond. I think one is an iris and the other a waterlilly. Would the iris survive just planted in the earth? And I saw somewhere taht you could have like a mini pound in a container as long as you had oxygenator plants in it, would a rather large waterlilly survive in that? :D
Or anything elsa you could advise, I feel so sorry for the poor plants?

hi, you really need a pond to grow large water plants - it need not be massive. good luck.

A mate of mine has a water lily in his waterbutt,it always does well and he keeps the root trimmed to stop it taking over the entire cask. [IMG]

Your replies have inspired me to go to the garden centre at the weekend and I have bought the necessary equipment to build a mini pond (about half the size of a water butt). I've put in and some oxygenating plants and the waterlily which seems quite happy there and today I spotted 2 frogs having a swim! I'm very pleased with myself :D Thank you both, Fiwi

You made a good job of that pond.

That water lily looks rather large though. There are many different sizes of water lily and I would suggest a miniature one would be more appropriate.

    Hi Rich,
I thought that today actually, because it now has 5 leaves! But the idea was to accomodate the plant I was given, not to create a pond from scratch so I'll leave it for now and see what happens. fiwi
