Went up to visit my sister in Inverness, and she took us on a trip to see Inverewe gardens, famous for its micro-climate and HUGE collection of Rhodies (my favourite plant). Attached are a few pics we took, hope you like them! :D

Walled garden - fantastic clematis growing up at the side of the picture

Blue Poppies - what wonderful flowers, bought a few seeds to try at home!

Around the pond - very heavy growth

Look at the size of these Rhodie leaves!

Chilean Lantern Tree - I've got one of these at home, but it's got a long way to go to match this one!

All in all, a great day out and well worth a detour if you are up in that part of the world! [IMG]

What lovely gardens, DIHG. It is obviously in a micro-climate with all those beautiful exotics.

It's a great place, isn't it , Dave? I haven't been there for years, but your pics brought it all back to life again! I really must go back! :D

It certainly is Dendy - in fact, I think you recommended it to me once, knowing my love of rhodies, just can't find the post at the moment [IMG]

I couldn't believe how warm it was up there, although apparently this week it's freezing cold and full of rain in Inverness, so maybe I was just lucky! [IMG]

Lovely pictures Dave, their rhodies and azaleas are quite something ain't they. I visited the garden a good few years ago - but not this year whilst in the area.

The history of how the gardens were build, was both fascinating and sad - one man's dream, another man's labour - but no doubt provided work in an area where there was little. .

Yes Fran - we started the guided tour and learnt a bit about the history of the place, but we dropped out after a few mins because the lady giving the tour went SOOO fast you didn't get a chance to look at any plants! [IMG]

On the same lines, there's a really nice NTS place a bit further south, in Argyll, near Inveraray, called Crarae. It specialises in rhodies and azaleas too, as I remember - well worth a visit. Then there's Threave, and Culzean (pronounced "Cullane" )..... and so on, and so on!

Yes, Inverewe gardens are fabulous Dave - and thank you for the pics.
We visit every year in May when the Rhoddies are at their best
We stay at Gairloch where some of the best seafood in the world can be had at the Inn.
The whole area is just beautiful and you can do the sails watching for whales and dolphins. We've been lucky enough to have the dolphins swimming alongside us.
And NO - the Scottish Tourist Board don't pay me. Just love the place :thumb:
