potatoe question again!!

there seem to be lots of tater questions at the moment!!

this is my first bash at veg growing as well. I have bought some seed potatoes which I want to grow in some old compost bags wound down. so I have 2 questions.How many seed potatoes should put into a usual size multi purose compost bag( i think it may be 15 litres or maybe 20!) and can I put them outside now or should I just put them in a cold room?

 

Hello LG. Never grown them in growbags before. Interesting, I might give it a try this year. Last year I used the largest pots(about 15" diameter) I had vacant. The yield wasn't too good though. I suppose with the bags the size you are using just one spud per bag and bank in up as the shoots start to appear.
As for the cold, well if you place plenty of soil/compost around the spud it will keep the frost out. If I am mistaken someone will correct me!!

Don't think you'd get many in a 20 litre bag l-g, I think the compost I'd usually buy would be 60 or 80l - are you sure 15 or 20l is right? If so I think one potato per bag might well be all you want. Don't put outside now as the frost might do for it - Good Friday is always a safe put for planting Summer and Autumn veg out!

 

not sure now!!! I dont think it will be 20 litres.maybe more like 60 !!!
