I'll try and get some greyhound plug plants if i can. Ive a number of garden catalogues i can check out. T&M, Dobies etc, As to photo's now you got me there. I'm new to using a PC and still a bit wary. I dont know what kind of pc friendly camera needed or anything. Totaly pc ignorant i'm afraid, although i've managed so far.I know we have a pc section but ....

Ok folks, it looks like planting is going to happen this weekend. Dai, can you just clarify the instructions as to where the cut should be ? I figure somewhere just below the first set of `true` leaves ? cheers...freddy.

 

Freddy, anywhere between the bottom leaves and the soil, about halfway would be fine. Don`t forget, you need to use something to keep the cut open.I used matchsticks.

Hello all just finding my way around again.

I bought at our local garden ecentre yesterday pot of 5 green beans plant for a £1 first time growing so really dont know how to grow although would like to grow in a container.

Just one more thing Dai, do you think I should tread the ground down a bit ? The ground is still quite loose. Cheers...freddy.

Well Dai, you look very resplendent I must say ! Tomorrow, the cabbages go in and I`ve decided to cut them just below(maybe an inch or so) the first set of true leaves, given the fact that the stem is a bit thin further down. BTW, when I get round to it, I`ll post some pics of how my garden is shaping up. Cheers...freddy.

Hi David, just joined here and ran through this thread.........I have some small Greyhound cabbages on the go but not sure exactly what you suggest cutting and where...........sorry to sound dim but it would be just like me to get it wrong and do some damage!!

 

No problem strayaway. You cut the stem half way through. Do it gently though because it`s easy to cut the root system off.:D I would meke the cut about half way down the stem. The cut needs to be kept open, I used to use matchsticks. Best of luck.:thumb:

 

Hi folks. Well, something of a disaster ! Having TRIED to cut the stem and place a small chip of wood in the cut, most attempts ended with the stem snapping. It didn`t take much as the stems were very fleshy and brittle. All I could manage was two plants using this method, given the fact that I only had a few spare plants and I still need to be able to have something to eat at the end of it ! Sorry Dai, I DID try. As requested, here`s a pic showing the chip of wood in place. Cheers...freddy.
