When I sow seed under cloches, will I need to keep removing the cloches to water or can I assume the surrounding soil will provide enough moisture?

There really isn't a definitive answer.
It all depends on the weather.
Cloches will to some extent help reduce evaporation due the drying effect of wind, but you'll still need to keep an eye on things particularly at the early stages of growth before the plants have developed deeper roots.
The soil needs a good soaking before sowing and if you can put the cloches in place a couple of weeks before sowing the soil will warm up and the seeds will germinate faster and with less chance of some failing.
I've always found that I've had to remove cloches at some time or other to water. Though how often has depended on the weather.

Depends on the surroundings, the ambient temperature, how much rain there is, the type of soil And the type of plants linlin.

Just check occasionally. If the soil under the cloche seems dry for the type of plant... then water. Remember seeds normally want a little more moisture than germinated plants but don't let them damp off, :D

How long is a piece of string?

Yes - thank you both. I've just sowed parsnip seed with a row of radish in between to remember where the parsnips are!! So I'll check about once a week - fingers x'd!
