Training a plum tree

    I bought a plum tree today and I would like to train it as an espalier along a south facing wall, what do I do please? [​IMG] :confused:

    It has four branches, with about 4 new shoots.

    Dai's the pro gardener Bumblebee and I'm sure he'll provide expert advice particularly if you can provide a photo.
    Meanwhile there are two links below with explanations of how to make an espalier. One of the links says espalier is not suitable for stone fruit, but I would not agree with that.
    From experience of our 20 year old espalier plum I'd suggest that you get some very strong wire supports attached to the wall as plums can crop very heavily and are prone to breaking if overloaded with fruit. I use strips of old bike inner tube to tie the branches to the supports - lasts for ages and stretches (and it's free!!).
