I used to have a large garden in Brighton, where it grew like a weed! Horrible looking straggley twiggy bushes....... and I didn't even know you could eat the fruit.

... but if you want it... the conditions it was thriving in were, Dry, sunny, chalky, windswept, salt laden, mild, rabbit infested cliff top.

    Grow 'em tough, I say!

Not that much thrived there... but Duke of Arygylls's tea tree (as we used to call it before superfoods were invented) did a little too well!

    Hello,

Just wondered how everybody's experiments with Goji Berry's worked out?

I've just bought one today for growing in my balcony greenhouse, but if it's hardy enough, I may just grow in containers on my balcony.

I'm growing one from seed. The germination rate was quite low, but then I did use dried goji berries stuck in water until they puffed up. I stuck my seedling next to the window. It grew quite lanky and fell over because it couldn't support itself, but it was only a few centimetres tall. I stuffed compost up to its cotyledon leaves and it's growing on the ground sitting on the soil, but it seems happy and is sprouting more leaves. Time will tell what happens when it grows bigger. I think it will do better outside.

I read somewhere that the fresh berries oxidise if you touch them so if you don't want to eat them straight away, don't pick them with your bare hands :skp:

Was just wondering how I should re-pot it? Like how big a pot, and should I give it some support? I live in a 6th floor apartment so i'm not sure if I should put it outside yet.... may be too windy?

we have 2 goji berry plants. we bought them last spring and put them in medium sized pots (about 12inches square) and put them up against a chainlink fence for support.

they flowered a little last year, but no fruit. they stayed out all winter, unprotected and are fine.

i told hubby he better like the berries, now he's bought 2 plants. he just said if we didnt, then he'd make wine out of them
