I've just bought potatoes, elephant garlic, radishes and hot chillis for containers, but will start with them indoors and then in a frame (even though it stays pretty mild where we are). I want the chillis to deter the squirrels, and apparently garlic will keep a lot of the insect pests away (although I didn't suffer much from pests last year). All our slugs seem to have headed off to the massive rave they're having in our compost heap, so I hope they'll stay away!

Last year I had good results from growing a few spuds in a spring loaded garden rubbish container that was a bit past its sell by date, so plenty of drainage holes in it.

They are a bit bigger than the average tub, so the spuds had plenty of room.
