Raspberry canes in pots

    Evening all. Does anyone know if its possible to grow raspberries in pots or troughs? I Have bought AUTUMN BLISS RASPBERRY CANES.

    Doesn't sound like a good idea to me Veggie.
    Normally they take one growing season to really get going, and they have a tendancy to move around a bit, ie. the new shoots come up in a different place to the old ones.
    I also think they would need a lot of feeding to keep them happy.

    It's not unknown Veggie but you'll need BIG pots and some way of supporting the tall canes and will probably have to split them every couple of years. You've nowt to lose by giving it a try though.

    Thanks for your help guys, It was just an idea, I think i will plant them in the garden somewhere instead, When is the best time to plant the canes, I know its a bit too wet and cold at the moment. Thanks again.

    Theyll be better off planted than with the roots exposed to the air, plant as soon as you can.


    I think pots will be fairly impractical, raspery roots go very deep and the compost will deplete quickly.
