    [IMG]A pile of logs?
    Gladiators..
After half a row of chewing my pluck out trying to lift these a kind man told me to take some of the soil away around the tops and pour water into the hole.Wait five minuites and they come out easier.A lot messier but it works.
I blasted them with the hosepipe and top and tailed them before bringing them home to save having to scrub my kitchen.
[IMG] I`m knackered but happy. [IMG]

Good grief! That's positively obscene! [IMG]

(The aliens I mean, not the log pile that snuck in ahead )

elainefiz, your wedding was not too long ago, right? That is a sign...I would keep it in a glass jar under olive oil or vinegar for memory (or am I just too sentimental...?)

Hi, I`d be interested to know what you`re going do with all those parsnips now that you dug them up. I assume you`re going to freeze them ? If so, what are they like compared to fresh ? Cheers...freddy.

Hi freddy, the reason i`ve dug them up(parsnips, leeks and turnips) and froze them all is so that i can get some manure on the plot as it wasn`t done last yr.
As far as taste goes for gladiators, this yr is my first so i can`t tell ya yet.I`ll let you know Sunday.
The others i think are as good as fresh.I just chop everything up,and freeze straight away. The only stuff i blanch is cabbage and i did what i had a while ago.I know alot will say,oh dear, you must blanch but i don`t and it`s never hurt me or the taste. :)My hands are orange and sore but my freezer is full. Quite agree Elaine. I do the catering in our house (Mrs S is usually too sober) and I don't blanch either.

Can you get those parsnips out of the bin and send them to me please. I am starting an amateur marriage guidance counseling session and I am sure I can find a use for them.

Do you think that`s wise? They are very knobbly.
Maybe you could just batter folk about the head with them? :D

Elaine, I`ve grown Gladiator for years and I have to say the flavour is superb. I used to show veg years ago and I was never once beaten on the 3 parsnip section while showing Gladiator. Another little known fact about them is, from a February sowing you can start harvesting about the end of August. David.

Much appreciated David.I may well try it.Harvesting in August weather must be easier than doing it at the back end of October.Saying that, i would have left them in till after Christmas if i didn`t have to manure. So six and two threes there.Wonder how big they would`ve gotten if i had left them? [IMG]
Sadly we don`t have shows anymore.Last yr i grew some beauty spring onions. They were huge.A couple of friends mistook them for ordinary onions.I was so proud. :D
