    Hi there peeps,

Just to let you know this week has had a fabulous cropping of soft fruits, including gooseberries and strawberries.

Here is a picture of our wonderful harvest Soft Fruits

How has your soft fruit been this year? As good? better? or even dare we say worse?

This year seem especially good for soft fruit.

News from the plot this week also includes, broad bean harvesting, blackfly removal, liming the waterbutts and the brassicas blowing!!?!?!?!?

    Regards

Despite only have 5 raspberry canes, I have already harvested over a pound of raspberries and there is at least the same amount to come. [IMG]

I saw somewhere that you can get autumn fruiting raspberries as well - can anyone recommend a good autumn variety?

Hi ruffmeister, our strawbs have been fab this year, pounds and pounds. Now, unfortunately, the squirrels have discovered them so I think I am going to have to land-mine the plot. :D

Tim D, a good autumn raspberry is Autumn Bliss, heavy yield and good flavour. They are very vigorous so don't plant near your summer ones, try and isolate the roots by putting barriers down around their patch. I made the mistake of planting them near the strawbs and have runners coming up all through them. [IMG]

Our blueberries seem to be coming along nicely, I spied a ripe one the other day and plucked it- tasted wonderful, but seems to have been the only one!

Our raspeberries are looking very nice too, I'd like to pick them and start using them but DH doesnt think they're quiet ready, yet. How much longer should I wait? They're red....

If you pull the fruit gently and it comes away from the white centre easily, it is ready. I wouldn't wait unless they're netted-birds will see that they're ready as well!
