I have 5 tomato seedlings I grew from a shop bought fruit. A couple of weeks ago I put them in yoghurt containers and I can see a bit of mould forming on the soil. They are on an inside kithen windowsill (single glazing) and admittedly haven't had a great deal of heat with the weather lately.

The plants are healthy if a bit leggy and tonight I have popped them above the wood stove.

Any thoughts? Same thing is happening to my spider plant - help!

Sounds like too much water and poor drainage?

let the soil dry out a bit before any more watering, and you may be ok.

Thanks for replying. I didn't put drainage holes in the containers as I thought the tomatoes would suck up the water.

I've bought some cheap clay pots with holes to move them up into so I shall do that tomorrow.

I cant think of any plants that can survive without drainage.

    Even succulent houseplant require drainage.

The plants will take what they need!
