Radishes

I planted some radishes on March 21 - they're cherry belles.

They still haven't cropped, does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I pulled one up today and it does have a tiny red root but is not radish size or round at all. The website says cropping in 22 days! http://seeds.thompson-morgan.com/uk/en/product/540/1

They need good soil, plenty of moisture and good light. Any of those missing? Did they germinate? If they did did you sow them too thickly? You should aim to space the seeds about 1 inch apart, they are big seeds. If they are too close then they will not swell. With radish they must grow fast, otherwise they taste too hot, go hollow or run to seed, so they must never go dry.
When sowing I take out a broad drill with the flat blade of a hoe . I then water the base of the drill with a watering can so the seed will lie on damp soil. I then sow them in a 4 inch wide band, spacing each seed about 1 - 2 inches from its neighbour. Rake over just enough soil to cover and tamp down with the head of the rake.

 

I put mine among the turnip seeds.I`d run out of string line so they make good markers.

They did germinate - were fine looking plants for a very long time !
This week they've bolted properly though :(
I think moisture is probably the problem, that and I did wait too long before thining them out I think. I'll have another go and be sure to water them much more.

 

You need to sow them every two weeks to keep up the supply but even then..... Two lots have come together so we are inundated at present......belch!

The ones we ate tonight took just two weeks. They are really maturing fast in this heat.

 

My "French Breakfast " were ready in 3 weeks !
