I bought a pepper plant from a local church plant sale it is a good 2ft tall very healthy plant in a 6in pot but I was wondering what sort of care it needs as it is getting what look like flower buds on it. I have no idea on what sort of pepper it is though.

Could maybe do with a bigger pot, I prefer 10-12". Repot using a good balanced compost. Once they start to flower and set fruit you can treat peppers much the same as tomatoes (same family). That is, keep well watered and feed with any high potash tomato feed once a week. They will also need staking and tying to prevent the stems from breaking under the weight of the fruit. They take longer than toms to ripen but if they are the normal sweet green/red type then you can harvest them when they are a good enough size for cooking with. You will need a very sheltered spot if growing outdoors or a well lit windowsill, they are really best grown in a greenhouse or cool conservatory but it's not impossible.

I don't like hot chilies and have never bothered growing them but others on GC will advise if their care is different, you would probably need to wait untill they are fully red-ripe before picking.

My last-ditch-attempt capsicums have only recently germinated, so I must prick them out asap. I hope they'll grow quickly to catch up!

My chilli peppers don't seem to be making much growth. They're still in the greenhouse. Last year, I had them planted outside and had loads of peppers, green & red.

    Good luck!

oh dear..im getting the feeling my chillis arent doing too well..ive been reading that they should have at least some flowers on by now, and maybe fruiting. They are only about 3" tall!! I think Ive subjected them to a wee bit too much cold when ive put the pots outside in the daytime. Mr pod will be very fed up! Oh well fingers crossed for me and you Tiarella :)

I've just potted my chillis into bigger pots in the hope they'll spread out a bit and thus blossom forth!
