I am quite keen on getting a small lime tree. The thing is would I be able to grow one here in Scotland outside or would I have to keep it in the greenhouse. Also whats the best type and the best place to get one? Any advise would be appreciated. [IMG]

You get limes all over the place, Dalbuie - I remember lots in the next street to us in Hamilton, they pollarded them all the time.....

    Re sources - I'll have a look!

Hi, dalbuie. We have a Bearrs lime.

I am pleased to say ours is heaving with budlets after three years here and it was already two/three years old when we bought it! We had three limes last year! :(

I can't say how they would do by you, even in your greenhouse.

I think pete has a lime or is it someone else but whoever is much further south than you.

Ah, that explains it! Lime trees, not lime trees! :D

Forget all the above.... totally irrelevant!

Chances are you'd have to have a pretty sheltered spot to have one in Scotland, and even then it might be pushing it.....

Here's a place that sells Kaffir Limes - maybe a sunny patio would be ok for it?

I bought a small lime tree in Florida on holiday. Its three years old I keep it on the patio in Summer then bring it in for the winter. Its about 18 inches tall at present and I'm told won't fruit until its about five years old.

When I lived in Sri-Lanka, Mother used to make lime pickle from our lime trees. very tasty and you could keep it bottled for years.the longer its in the bottle the better it tastes. It makes my mouth water just talking about it.
